IsoBoard can be used throughout the entire building envelope, including cavity walls. Typical
Achieving the threshold U-value of 0.30 W/m2K is straightforward. Most big developers would do this with 300mm-thick walls, consisting of a 100mm external facing brick, a 100mm internal thermal block and a choice of insulations in the cavity gap. Source it: Find Kingspan Insulation products in the Build It Directory.. The Building Regulations require that the insulation material used is suitable for the wall construction concerned. In the case of some foam cavity wall insulating materials an assessment of the risk of the emission of formaldehyde gas will need to be carried out. Local authority building control departments can give more detailed guidance.

This is far below the 0.18 W/m 2 K that the new regs suggest. However, I have recently been made aware of some developments that may change things for the better. Xtratherm have a CavityTherm product touted as achieving U-values as low as 0.16 W/m 2 K in a standard 100mm cavity within a traditional 300mm wall.. Technically, to meet the R-30 cavity-only option in climate zones 4 through 8, the insulation material will need to have an R-value of 4.14 per inch to be used in a 2×8 wall cavity. Otherwise, either a 2×10 wall will be needed or a combination of closed-cell spray foam and fibrous insulation, aka the flash and batt method.
